ARCIC, Third phase continued 2019-2025
- May 12-17, 2019 – Jerusalem, Israel
“New phase examining how, in communion, the local and universal church discerns right ethical teaching; how each of the two communions had discerned their ethical teaching with reference to two case studies: slavery and contraception”** October 26-28 March, 2019 – South Bend, Indiana (USA)
Consultation of the signers of the JDDJ – (The World Methodist Council affirmed JDDJ in 2006; the Anglican Communion in 2016; and the World Communion of Reformed Churches in 2017) - May 12-15, 2020 – Convened virtually online“How discernment is understood within each tradition, the status of ethical teaching , and to what extent ethical differences have proved Church dividing in Christian history; The Commission also heard presentations regarding the sources and discernment of the Church’s social teaching”
- May 10 & 12, 2021 – Webinar“The Commission considered the forthcoming study document of the Faith and Order Commission, Churches and Moral Discernment: Facilitating Dialogue to Build Koinonia. Members considered how the work, and specifically the “Tool” for Moral Discernment developed in the document, could be integrated with ARCIC’s own work”
- May 7-14, 2022 – Rome, Italy
“Theme taken up in continuing how the Church local, regional and universal discerns right ethical teaching. - May 7-15, 2023 – Larnaca, Cyprus
“The Commission’s work for the week was focused on the second part of its mandate – to examine how the Church local, regional and universal discerns right ethical teaching. A major part of the week’s work was devoted to work on two case studies about moral issues – one where Catholics and Anglicans reached broadly the same teaching, and one where they did not”** March 7-8, 2024 – London, UK
Drafting meeting: the drafting group concentrated on refining and analysing two case studies which will form
part of the fourth chapter of the report. These case studies examine one example of where Catholics and Anglicans
reached the same teaching – Enslavement – and one where they did not – Contraception. - May 11-18, 2024 – Strasbourg, France
The Commission continues to work on the second part of its mandate to examine how the Church local, regional and universal discerns right ethical teaching. Drafting work on an Agreed Statement had continued during the period since the Commission’s 2023 plenary. The Commission’s drafting sub-committee presented an almost complete draft during the meeting. It is hoped to complete the drafting in the coming months so that the document can be finalised by the Commission at its 2025 meeting in Melbourne. – COMMUNIQUÉ
