Executive Committee meeting discussed the final stages of the two studies with recommendations to the churches which the JWG has undertaken, on “Peacebuilding in Situations of Conflict” and “Migrants and Refugees – Ecumenical Challenges and Opportunities”. Time was given to discussing the remaining steps of finalizing the text of the Tenth Report to be issued at the end of the current mandate.November 6, 2020 – Zoom meeting
The Executive discussed the two studies with recommendations to the churches, which the JWG has undertaken, on “Peacebuilding in Situations of Conflict” and “Migrants and Refugees – Ecumenical Challenges and Opportunities”. Since the last meeting both documents had been revised in light of the new situation caused by the pandemic and the revisions have been approved. Members of the Executive then discussed the Tenth Report to be issued at the end of the current mandate. It was recognized that the text of the Report reflects well the work accomplished although it requires an update given the extension of the mandate of the JWG, as well as further improvement regarding the content and style.February 3, 2021 – Zoom meeting
Executive Committee meeting discussed the Tenth Report to be issued at the end of the current mandate, together with two study documents “Peace is a Treasure for All. Peace–building in Situations of Conflict and Violence” and “Migrants and Refugees – Ecumenical Challenges and Opportunities”. All three documents are in the final stage of preparation. They will be sent to the members of the JWG for comments. It is expected that the plenary of the JWG will approve them during its next meeting scheduled for April 2021 - April 12-16, 2021 – Zoom meeting
“The JWG plenary met virtually (the meeting had been previously scheduled to be held in Brussels). The agenda of the final plenary meeting of the present JWG mandate included: a) an exchange of information on the recent activities of the parent bodies during the COVID-19 pandemic; b) an updating on the preparation of the 11th WCC General Assembly to be held in 2022 as well as on the process for the official reception of the JWG Final Report (presentation by Charlotte Belot and Dr. Georges Lemopoulos); c) final revision, discussion and approval of the Final Report on the work of the JWG and the two study documents, all updated in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic situation. All the three documents: the Tenth Report entitled ‘Walking, Praying and Working Together. An Ecumenical Pilgrimage’, the two study documents studies with recommendations to the churches: ‘Peace is a Treasure for All – An Ecumenical Reflection on Peace Building in Situations of Conflict and Violence’ and ‘Migrants and Refugees – Ecumenical Challenges and Opportunities’ had been formally approved and received by the JWG plenary in order to be presented to the parent bodies for approval” - October 12, 2022 – Zoom meeting
The first part of the executive committee meeting was dedicated to sharing on important recent developments in the life of the two institutions. The second part of the meeting was dedicated to discussing what still needs to be done
regarding the three documents which are in the final phase of preparation, the final Report from the current mandate, and the two studies with recommendations to the churches on “Peacebuilding in Situations of Conflict” and “Migrants and Refugees – Ecumenical Challenges and Opportunities”. The next Executive will be held in-person on 4-5 November 2021 in Bossey, Switzerland, to discuss the work still to be undertaken by the JWG before the end of its mandate. - November 4-5, 2022 – Bossey, Switzerland
After several meetings held online due to the COVID – 19 pandemic , the Executive Committee of the Joint Working Group (JWG) between the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Catholic Church met in – person in Bossey, Switzerland. Leadership meeting held, which aimed to assess the ongoing collaboration between the Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches and propose avenues for future cooperation. One significant outcome of this meeting was the development of the “Terms of Reference” for the JWG’s work during the 2023-2030 mandate.

Among the issues identified as relevant for the current mandate there are Christian persecution, religious indifference, and moral diversity. These will be addressed through the lens of salvation theology using the synodal method of listening in the Spirit, with the aim of proposing pathways toward collective reconciliation.
